(1) Leave with pay shall be granted by the department head up to a maximum of four work days in any calendar year for each death in the immediate family if any. All time off for a death in the family in excess of four days in any one year shall be charged to sick leave. Such leave may be extended in special circumstances with the approval of the City Manager. Immediate family shall include only the spouse or children of the employee; or the father, mother, grandparent, brother or sister of the employee and those of the employee’s spouse.

(2) Employees shall be allowed to use accumulated sick leave up to four workdays each calendar year for illness in the immediate family. However, the department head may require the employee to furnish satisfactory proof of an illness requiring the family member be attended. Immediate family shall include only the employee’s spouse, children living at home, or any other relative living in the employee’s home.
