(1) No person shall engage in or carry out the business of massage or massage therapy or engage in or operate a massage business without first applying for and receiving from the City a business license under this chapter.

(2) No person may represent himself or herself as a massage practitioner without first applying for and receiving from the City a business license under this chapter or be employed by a massage business licensed under this chapter. A person represents himself or herself as a massage practitioner when the person adopts or uses any title or any description of services that incorporates one or more of the following terms or designations: massage, massage practitioner, massage therapist, massage therapy, therapeutic massage, massage technician, massage technology, massages, masseur, masseuse, myotherapist or myotherapy, touch therapist, reflexologist, acupuncturist, body therapy or body therapist, or any derivation of those terms that implies a massage technique or method.

(3) All applications for a massage business license under this chapter shall be accompanied by a legible photocopy of the applicant’s state massage license as provided for in RCW 18.108.030.

(4) No license may be issued under this chapter without the prepayment of the general business license fee set forth in Chapter 3.35 PMC. [Ord. 3560 § 47, 2002; Ord. 2840 § 1, 1991; Code 1970 § 5.70.020.]
